This tool allows to trace a parallel based on any selected line or polygon. You can select several objects in same time. This tool is available in the group Modification | Parallel from the ribbon Geometry.

It opens a windows. Specify the offset distance for the parallel and the position of the parallel from the origin item. Parallels are created in an internal overlay called Parallel.

You have to know the direction of the line to know the position of the parallel from the origin item (right or left).

How to know the direction of a geometry?

Several methods are available: look at the item origin, its properties, create a thematic, ...

The proposed method is graphic. We override a pen where the pattern shows the direction of the line. It is also possible to use a symbol which underline the starting point and the ending point of the line.
